Lavender & Cornflowers
Tell us a little about your piece?
As an admirer of the Arts and Crafts patterns, especially William Morris' wallpaper, I wanted to create a piece inspired by their decorative artwork and nature. Using reference images of my own fern leaves, lavender and cornflowers and a summer of bumblebee observations, the pattern came together.
What was the most challenging part of the brief?
Making enough of the ferns to fill the pattern and have them position nicely to repeat, they are intricate and took the longest to cut out.
What part of the collaboration did you enjoy the most?
I enjoyed challenging myself to making a desgn that can be used as a repeating pattern, as it is not my usual way of working and something I have always wanted to try.
How did you enjoy working with Excel Blades, tools?
I regularly use the Excel scapel because I prefer the comfort of the handle. The tweezers were new for me and I found them very helpful.
