Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am a full time paper artist living and working in the Lake District in Cumbria. My 2 greatest passions are nature and paper. I am inspired daily by the magic and beauty of the natural world and try to capture some of that beauty in my paper art.
Tell us a little bit about your interpretation of Paper Passion?
My interpretation was to simply have fun whilst showcasing the amazing versatility of paper.
Tell us a little about your piece?
I am always amazed by the endless possibilities that come form a single sheet of paper. It is delicate yet strong. I feel the same way about feathers, a single feather on its own is light and can float through the air, yet build a wing out of them and together they become strong and powerful. The swan demonstrates this beautifully and I knew straight away that this is what I wanted to make.
What was the most challenging part of the brief?
Each individual feather is hand cut and the sheer volume that I needed, at times felt like an endless task. However. looking at the finished piece, it was definitely worth it.
What part of the brief did you enjoy the most?
It is a real treat to be given such an open brief where the main aim is to just have fun and showcase the material I love the most.
How did you enjoy working with Munken and Arctic Volume?
I have worked and experimented with hundreds of different types of paper and I found the Munken and Arctic volume a joy to work with. The scalpel glided effortlessly through the paper and was beautifully smooth. I was a little nervous of painting the paper as I had chosen a lighter weight at 150gsm but it took the paint perfectly without warping. I used Arctic volume for the feathers and Munken for the painted elements.
